The North American Industry Groups database is based on Hemscott’s
proprietary Industry Groups classification system. The system is
comprised of 9 macroeconomic sectors, 31 business segments and 215
industry groups. Each of the 215 industry groups may be broken out
as a separate index with its own return calculation. These categories
apply to both U.S. and Canadian companies.
Within the database, each company is assigned to a specific Industry
Group. Once a company is classified, its financial data becomes
part of the aggregated industry financial statement – weighted
by the company’s market capitalization.
Clients can select and view aggregate financial data by Sector,
Segment or Industry, and can also find individual company data within
a specific Industry Group for company-to-industry comparisons.
